A woman once told me, six years after our session, that the photographs we made together were still present in her life. That she had gone through one of the hardest seasons of her life in the time since — and that when she needed to remember who she was, she went and gaze them.That is what I am building toward with every session I take.My name is Oscar Catarino. I have been a photographer — not in the way of someone who picked up a camera as a hobby, but in the way of someone who has spent over 7 years in rooms with women who are trying, often for the first time in their adult lives, to simply be the subject. Not the caretaker. Not the executive. Not the mother or the partner or the professional. The subject.I have watched women arrive nervous and leave with something they can't quite name but can feel in the way they walk. I have watched a woman look at a photograph of herself and go silent — not from embarrassment, but from recognition. As if the image showed her something she had forgotten was there.I have learned, that this does not happen by accident. It happens because of the quality of the attention. The questions asked.
